Februrary 2025 DC Grommoff - Escape Room
2/8/2025
2:15 PM - 7:00 PM
Alexandria
Virginia ![]() Greetings my frozen friends!
For our first Grommoff of 2025, we are returning to Alexandria, VA to try our mental wits at a pair of escape rooms, followed by getting dinner and drinks at the Alexandria Bier Garden. This event will require advanced RSVP and payment (if doing the escape room) to attend, so please make sure you confirm you are coming and contact the event organizer (FatTrainNerd) as soon as you know you plan to attend! Please RSVP no later than February 1st and if you need to cancel and want a refund, you must do so by February 5th. After that, any refund is contingent on finding someone to take the spot.
And as always, if you are interested in joining the Discord group to keep up to date on this event and future events, contact FatTrainNerd for an invite. All planning for future DC Grommoffs is done via this group, so it is highly suggested to join to make your voice heard regarding suggestions for events and when they happen! This event venue was voted on by our lovely local community for instance. We are currently working to follow a rotating pattern of events between DC, MD and VA, so we are always looking for suggestions of places to go.

Event Costs:
Escape Room Live Alexandria is $37 per person, to be paid in advance to the organizer (FatTrainNerd). Payment via Venmo, CashApp or Paypal prior to the event is preferred, if paying cash, you will need to discuss with the organizer about arranging this prior to the event. There will be 18 spots available, however after February 1st, all remaining spots will be removed, so you -must- sign up in advance.
Dinner will be paid individually, with average costs of a meal at the Bier Garden ranging from $18-$25. You still must RSVP with the organizer to join, even if you are only planning to attend for dinner.

Directions to the event:
Escape Room Live Alexandria address: 814 King St 2nd floor, Alexandria, VA 22314 https://maps.app.goo.gl/GA2sDSNsgmqKQ7We7
Alexandria Bier Garden address: 710 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314 https://maps.app.goo.gl/XVT6NE4as9njtqn98
If arriving by public transit, the Yellow and Blue lines on the DC Metro will get you Alexandria via the Old Town- King Street Metro station. From there, you can take the DASH 30/31 buses or King Street Trolley to the King Street and Patrick Street stop. Alternatively, it is about an 8.5 block walk from the Metro if you feel adventurous. Additionally for more bus savvy folks, the Metrobus 10A, 10B and 11Y buses all stop nearby at the S Washington and King Street bus stop about 1.5 blocks away from the Escape Room as well.
If you are driving, parking on King Street is generally very limited, so you will need to search on the nearby side streets (be mindful and check signs for parking restrictions). The Market Square parking garage is also about 4.5 blocks from the Escape Room (and even closer to the Bier Garden), and generally has spots available, though you will need to check upon arrival.
---
When arriving for the event:
If attending the Escape Room, please arrive by 2:15PM. As we will have two different rooms booked, there will be up to a 15 minute stagger between when each room starts, with one at 2:30PM and the other at 2:45PM. Due to the potential size of our group, it is expected it will take some time to get checked in and sign all the required forms to start, so please aim to be there on time so we don’t delay our group. Reminder again that you -must- RSVP no later than February 1st if you plan to attend the escape room, and the last day to cancel and receive a full refund is February 5th.
If you are attending dinner, we will be meeting at the Bier Garden at 4:45PM for dinner. This should give the group sufficient time to finish at the escape rooms and then make our way the half block to the Bier Garden. Again, you must RSVP for this by February 1st. If you plan to enjoy any of the many beer offerings from the beer garden, please drink responsibly.

*GrommOffs are independently organized by members who've been vetted and approved as organizers, and who abide by a set of GrommOff Ground Rules which can be read in the Support link above. If you believe that these rules were not followed, please contact the GrommOff account here: https://grokio.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/4/topic/3ab9d4b8-c5d9-4822-a936-64a17a41150f/article/181731339 *
Please note well the following rules for Grommoffs:
1. Respect personal space of the group and others. Always ask before encroaching on other's space, especially with people new to you and the group. If asked to stop or give space, respect this. Failure to do so will result in being asked to leave and potentially being barred from future events.
2. Absolutely no racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, transphobia or other bigotry! This shouldn't have to be said, but bigotry will not be tolerated at any Grokio events.
3. Respect the discretion of the group in public Oftentimes, gatherings are held in public places (restaurants, parks, beaches, bowling alleys, etc.) and there will be other people nearby. Be aware that loud voices travel—if you’re talking about sensitive or potentially embarrassing topics, use your inside voice. Similarly, a public place is not appropriate for intimacy or sexualized touching. Even if the other person is comfortable with it, respect that you’re with a group in a public place and hold off until you have more privacy. Additionally, be mindful when taking photos/video at the event and allow for members to bow out or turn their heads if they do not wish to be recorded/photographed.
4. Illegal drug/alcohol use is not allowed The use of drugs that are illegal in the local jurisdiction before or during a Grokio Community Gathering is strictly forbidden, as is the consumption of alcohol by those under the legal age in the local jurisdiction.
5. Guests from outside the community are only allowed with prior approval We know that attending a GrommOff, Feabie Meet or Ferzu Event for the first time can be scary, but bringing along a friend from outside the community for support can make others feel uncomfortable and force them to edit themselves the way they do in the real world (the goal of our gatherings is to let everyone stop editing!) If you absolutely must bring a friend from outside the community and you are confident they will know how to behave appropriately, you must clear it with the organizer BEFORE the event. Any portion of a gathering occurring in a bar or pub is excepted from this rule.
