April 2025 DC Grommoff - Baltimore Board Games!

4/26/2025
2:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Baltimore
MD

Greetings my rain soaked friends!

For our second Grommoff of 2025, we are heading up into Maryland and having a wonderful day trip up to Baltimore, MD to play board games and enjoy the food of the Charm City. We will start off by meeting up at No Land Beyond at 2PM to play board games, socialize and snack. You can both bring your own board games or play one of the 400+ they have there. There will be games of all sorts and folks happy to teach new players.

Afterwards (around 6-6:30PM) we will venture across the street to grab dinner at iBar which has a wide variety of bar food, from wings to tacos to burgers to rice bowls! From there we will likely have a bit of an after-party at the Baltimore Eagle, though this will be post event, so any after dinner plans are TBD.

And as always, if you are interested in joining the Discord group to keep up to date on this event and future events, contact FatTrainNerd for an invite. All planning for future DC Grommoffs is done via this group, so it is highly suggested to join to make your voice heard regarding suggestions for events and when they happen! This event was voted on by our lovely local community for instance. We are currently working to follow a rotating pattern of events between DC, MD and VA, so we are always looking for suggestions of places to go.

Event Costs:

No Land Beyond has a $5 play fee to be able to enjoy the space and play games. They have pizza from Brick N' Fire Pizza ($15) available as well as a full bar if you're feeling it. Just please drink responsibly.

iBar will be individual ordering, so order what you're up to pay for, entrees range from $10-20 depending on what you're ordering.

Directions to the event:

No Land Beyond Address: 2125 Maryland Ave, Baltimore, MD 21218

iBar Address: 2118 Maryland Ave, Baltimore, MD 21218

If you are taking transit, both venues are near Penn Station in Baltimore, via 10-15 min by walking. The CityLink Silver line bus also has stops near both venues. From DC, you can take both the MARC Penn Line and Amtrak to get to Penn Station from both DC's Union Station (on the Red Line) and New Carrollton Station (the Maryland terminus for the Orange Line). MARC will be cheaper, but does not run as late. If taking Amtrak, consider booking sooner than later.

If driving, there is generally street parking as well some lots in the area, but you'll need to determine pricing and where you want to park. We will likely organize some carpools from the DC area as well, so please reach out to the organizer (FatTrainNerd) if you're interested in carpooling or willing to offer to drive folks up! Please understand that if you are planning to offer to drive, keep the folks you are driving in the loop. Note that if you back out with little or no notice as a driver, you may be barred from future events.

When arriving for the event:

We will meet at No Land Beyond at 2PM and hang there until around 6-6:30 to go grab dinner. If you're struggling to find our group, just message the FatTrainNerd and someone will come grab you.

At iBar, feel free to join and order with the group. We will likely hang out there until 7:30-8pm at the latest. Folks will decide from there what they want to do afterwards!

*GrommOffs are independently organized by members who've been vetted and approved as organizers, and who abide by a set of GrommOff Ground Rules which can be read in the Support link above. If you believe that these rules were not followed, please contact the GrommOff account here: https://grokio.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/4/topic/3ab9d4b8-c5d9-4822-a936-64a17a41150f/article/181731339 *

Please note well the following rules for Grommoffs:

1. Respect personal space of the group and others.

Always ask before encroaching on other's space, especially with people new to you and the group. If asked to stop or give space, respect this. Failure to do so will result in being asked to leave and potentially being barred from future events.

2. Absolutely no racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, transphobia or other bigotry!

This shouldn't have to be said, but bigotry will not be tolerated at any Grokio events.

3. Respect the discretion of the group in public

Oftentimes, gatherings are held in public places (restaurants, parks, beaches, bowling alleys, etc.) and there will be other people nearby. Be aware that loud voices travel—if you’re talking about sensitive or potentially embarrassing topics, use your inside voice. Similarly, a public place is not appropriate for intimacy or sexualized touching. Even if the other person is comfortable with it, respect that you’re with a group in a public place and hold off until you have more privacy. Additionally, be mindful when taking photos/video at the event and allow for members to bow out or turn their heads if they do not wish to be recorded/photographed.

4. Illegal drug/alcohol use is not allowed

The use of drugs that are illegal in the local jurisdiction before or during a Grokio Community Gathering is strictly forbidden, as is the consumption of alcohol by those under the legal age in the local jurisdiction.

5. Guests from outside the community are only allowed with prior approval

We know that attending a GrommOff, Feabie Meet or Ferzu Event for the first time can be scary, but bringing along a friend from outside the community for support can make others feel uncomfortable and force them to edit themselves the way they do in the real world (the goal of our gatherings is to let everyone stop editing!) If you absolutely must bring a friend from outside the community and you are confident they will know how to behave appropriately, you must clear it with the organizer BEFORE the event. Any portion of a gathering occurring in a bar or pub is excepted from this rule.
